Transient expression of MFG-E8 in HEK293F cells. HEK 293F cells were transfected with pCDNA 3.4/MFG-E8, and the expression of recombinant MFG-E8 was confirmed by western blotting (a and Additional file 1: Figures S1, S2). After centrifugation of cell culture, the recombinant protein was found in precipitate but not supernatant (b and Additional file 1: Figure S3). The recombinant MFG-E8 was further confirmed to link with outside of cell membrane with anti-MFG-E8 antibody by laser confocal microscope (c) and flow cytometry (d). In the laser confocal microscope, the red stain refers to the cell membrane, and the green stain refers to the MFG-E8
