The structure and marker expression of the preserved ECSs examined by HE and immunohistochemistry. Only in the frozen-2 group was the well-preserved structure of ECSs observed with equivalent nucleus density and cell layers to the control group. The expression of AE1/AE3 after storage was similar to that of the control. The percentage of P63-positive cells in the low-temperature groups was lower than that in the fresh control group (P < 0.05), and the greatest decrease was observed in the refrigerated-1 group (P < 0.05); the greatest preservation was observed in the frozen-2 group (P < 0.05).
