An unbalanced NADH/NADPH ratio is characteristic of the sfPFKM strain. The strains were pre-grown on glycerol/ethanol medium until the value of 1(OD600) was reached. As a control pfk null HD114-8D strain with empty plasmid has been taken. Pyridine nucleotide levels were measured 3 h after the transfer of the cells to 1% maltose or maltose with 10 mM ethanol medium. NADH/NADPH ratios were calculated from the data presented in Additional file 6: Table S1
