  1. Lipid production rate, yield and percent dry weight and biomass concentration were determined at the time of maximum total lipid produced. Carbon was provided as 30 g L−1 glucose or xylose and (NH4)2SO4 was provided as nitrogen. Cultures were grown in defined medium at pH 4.0, 30°C, 900 rpm, 1.2 vvm aeration.
